Just rode my first DJ at local indoor bike park. Loved it for being something different I’ve tried. Coming from MTB and Gravel/Road riding. Is the new Intense DJ a good bike to start with? I don’t mind spending $1300-1500ish on used bike.

Lol the backstory to this vid sounds EXACTLY like what I have been going through with a frame, even down to piercing a hole in the seat tube. My next planned move is to melt it away with caustic soda which appears to have a similar effect as gallium..

Youve hit the nail on the head - and its people like you and Stridsland giving coverage to 90's ATBs, older bikes with updated midrange parts, and showing people riding and having a great time that keep us grounded. Many of your builds serve as proof that the mindset is at least as important as the bike.

vans are not good for anything just get a normal hiking type shoe that has a stiff sole. don't over spend just for them type shoes

softer sole and you can grip you pedal better stiff flat pedal shoes are a scam based on clipless pedal mentality of the need to push your foot into the shoe bc clipless pedals are tiny. so when you have a normal pedal you don't need that platform inside your shoe.

You gotta get a 55T chainring with the 22T rear. I have the gravel edition which uses a Gates drive, and Gates sells various chainrings, cogs and belts. I also run Challenger Gravel Grinders 700 x 38's. I think everyone ends up with a 120mm stem... I did!

I’m seeing this clip, three years after the fact, and have not been able to go through all of the comments. I have the same color Rockhopper (1993, I believe). Does anyone know the size of the rims and tires on this dude’s bike. I have 26” x 1.5” rims/wheels and I’m trying to figure out what range of tire sizes I can use. Clearly, I’m a novice, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

I own a 1992 KONA Hei Hei that I use mainly for gravel , it works but its rather short and cramped as the older geometry kinda sucks to be honest.

Same issue kept finding the rear axle coming loose. Turned out to be the hub

I’m 35 now I rode a little bmx when I was younger. I havent done anything outside of just riding a bike since I’ve been like 18. Also I broke my foot,ankle and leg a few years ago and riding a bike is pretty much the only athletic form of exercise I can really do anymore. Just got a dj this spring, up until a couple weeks ago I’ve only been just riding it trying to get some muscle back in my atrophied leg. Been riding a pump track now for the past couple weeks. And it feels so good to get two wheels off the ground again. Can’t quite clear the tabletops on it yet but I’m definitely getting there.

Drop bar bikes are the fastest for the road. Unfortunately, where I live, it's taking your life into your hands to ride the busy roads. The trails are open and safer when you're careful. With e-bikes, I suspect drop bars will become less popular.

The 1990s carbon epic road bike looks amazing

The trails you chose to ride are a more determining factor than the bikes are. I know that these super-buffed dirt roads with artificial features made with precision contours are the current fad, but I'd like to see a similar bike comparison on a fun, old-school single track.

Great points here ! There's also a large amount of 35 year old guys on the trails that really want people think that their a pro or aspiring to become a pro based on having a $10,000.00 bike. They'll actually run you kid and you wide right off the trail, especially if they're riding a budget bike. 😂😂😂😂😂
